And to do it year after year.Ģ.) I don’t follow your second point about combined volumes. What’s more, recyling is no panacea it’s very wasteful to produce unwanted items only to pitch them immediately into the recylcing bin. The recycling rate in Seattle is probably higher, but remember that the law applies to the whole state of Washington, which generally recycles much less than Seattle. Let me take a crack at answering some of your questions.ġ.) The recycling figure is, I believe, a national figure. Getting the phone companies to provide convenient opt-ins, when they want to drop the White Pages entirely, will be like getting tobacco companies to stop marketing to young people. In my experience, Century Link is already enforcing a de facto opt-in–not delivering unless you call each year. But phone-bill notices won’t help much with auto-pay and online billing, and annual check-off postcards will get lost with the other, ahem, junk mail. Sightline folks do offer some good opt-in ideas. I’d still favor giving the opt-out option more time to work. Many good ideas have also faded, such as the clotheslines that Sightline & I both champion. That’s not to say they’re not fading from use. I suspect we’d all like to see everyone’s numbers included except our own.Īs you know, I’ve written on the ways that phonebooks can sometimes be faster, more effective, and maybe even more resource-efficient than online searches ( !-/). A comprehensive cellphone directory would be useful, and intrusive. * “More and more people with cell phones & unlisted numbers means that the White Pages are gradually becoming less useful.” Indeed–and so are online directories, which also lack cell and unlisted numbers. How many other markets receive similar combined volumes, and how many in that 14 percent have switched over to them rather than dropping out of paper? * “The share of households relying on stand-alone residential white pages fell from 25 percent to 11 percent, just between 20.” Century Link now delivers the Seattle White and Yellow Pages bound together, in addition to the standalone–evidently a step toward eliminating the standalone. * “The EPA reports that only 37 percent of phone directories (by weight) are recycled.” A national figure? Seattle’s overall recycling is significantly higher, and its phonebook recycling rate may be higher still, since the books are easier to recycle than many other materials. the stats you cite, beyond andyg’s trenchant remarks on the 8 percent who seem to fall between the opt-in cracks. Hat tip to Jeanette Henderson for the video idea.Ĭlark–A couple questions re. Update by EdP: For more detail on the history of the law-and how we can change it-see my earlier post on the subject: Why You Can’t Stop the White Pages. So I’m kind of in the same situation as that absolutely, 100% for real guy in the video: I wish someone would just go ahead and change the law already. AT&T has reported that only 3 percent of residents in Austin and Atlanta asked for the white pages after the company initiated by-request-only delivery.A Gallup survey, as reported here, found that the share of households relying on stand-alone residential white pages fell from 25 percent to 11 percent, just between 20.The EPA reports that only 37 percent of phone directories (by weight) are recycled. (Of course, the survey was paid for by an internet white pages provider - but their findings are consistent with other evidence.)

They are hunted by big cats such as jaguars. The brown-throated sloth has greyish-brown fur/hair covering its body, with a much darker brown, almost reddish, colour covering its throat, forehead, and sides of its face. They can be hunted from the skies by harpy eagles, crested eagles and spectacled owls. The jaguar: has the scientific name of Panthera onca. Let’s discuss each of these predators in a bit more detail. The three main predators of sloths that come from the animal kingdom are jaguars, ocelots, and harpy eagles. But one of the very few species that might challenge that dominance is the eagle. Predators Of Sloths That Are From The Animal Kingdom. As already mentioned, larger and adult hawks are quite capable of defending themselves, and they’re almost impossible to catch. Does a three toed sloth have any predators Updated. The Harpy Eagle has a set of rear talons that can reach up to 4. What Eats Hawks (6 Predators Explained) These are some of the rare animals that eat and hunt hawks. Some of them are large snakes, harpy eagles, jaguars, ocelots, and people. Unlike Hoffman's and Linnaeus's sloths, the brown-throated sloth has three toes, a defining feature among sloths-since, as we've learned, sloths can be identified as either two- or three-toed. The harpy eagle is known as an apex predator, or top predator, and has no natural predators. It can be found primarily the rainforests of South and Central America. Jaguars and eagles are common predators of sloths. The brown-throated sloth is the most common type of sloth found in the wild. "Brown-Throated Three-Toed Sloth" by Charlie Jackson As sloths come to clearings in their once dense forest, they are forced to climb down from the safety of the treetops and struggle across open ground. A lot of people in the community asks for converts, and I only wanted to take all of them (dropbox, mega, mediafire, etc) and make a post. But the bit of experience I have also lets me know what outlet covers, flashings, silicone and various other things will hide )Īs long as you have patience, a tile that isn't absolute dogshit to cut (looking at you glass/marble mosaics!), the limit to what you can make a cut out of in a tile is very marginal - and for that, you have diamond drillbits etc to help with. Trust me, I've re-done many cuts and I'm not even THAT experienced. Yeah, it's very easy to mess up cuts with an angle grinder if you fail to give it 100% of your attention. I'd have done their cuts through subway tile in a tenth the time with a far better result. Personally, from what the demonstrations shown on youtube (cheers /u/themayker - that was a great laugh), I'm laughing at how ugly their cuts were and how much pressure they had to apply just to get through subway tile (pretty sure they were anyway) - god forbid they try it on porcelain. It's pretty much similar technique but with more hammer & chisel involved. Now if you're talking about existing already hung tile, yeah, that's a bitch no doubt about it. It really doesn't take long at all if you get the hang of it. If it's a really small cut, you may be better running multiple lines through the center of it and at varied angles so as to weaken the integrity of the center which you break apart (tap with a chisel/hammer if necessary). If needed, back cut through after a pass over the surface. Never overcut past your lines on the surface of the tile, but always do at least break through the glaze along the entire line(s). If you can mark up well, mark up the back of the tile as well. I've done many small circular cuts you'd think would be impossible just with using an angle grinder, a pair of nips, and a bit of time. This is the part where technique and experience come into play. The only reason I'm leaning towards the multi tool is it would be a lot easier not to over cut the tiles. You should try it again with a good tool and a good blade and see how well it works. I think you've just had one bad experience and blamed an inferior tool. Then I'll toss you my spare hammer and invite you to join me. I'll keep framing with my hammer and finish the job. When you have no access to electricity for a compressor, or your battery is dead. Sure it's just a pine wedge, but if you score and snap you risk nicking the factory glazed ikea finish that is completely impossible to repair. Every time I use it I'm thankful for it and it also means I only need to carry the one tool vs several other tools.Įxhibit A Exhibit B took 2 seconds without any physical exertion and is a flawless finish. It has proven itself multiples time throughout multiple trades. I never leave home without it exactly for that reason. Friction! The diversity of applications an oscillating tool can handle makes it a valuable tool. I can generate smoke with a jigsaw too if I wanted. The blades cut in a 5 degree back and forth action, that generates heat and smoke depending on the material. Just because they have attachments and are advertised to handle a variety of tasks doesn't mean they are an effective choice for those tasks. Both achieve the same end result but the hammer is much slower with no benefits.Ībsolutely, because I think they have very limited practical uses. I can frame a house with a hammer or I can use a air-powered framing nailer. Instead, it burns things and, according to other commenters on this post, chips tile. If there was some significant benefit to be gained by using the oscillating tool on hard compounds such as tile and plywood, then it could be argued as equally effective in spite of the loss of speed. No, it's not, it's about effectiveness, which is a direct product of speed. Appropriate methods will easily cut the itemĪppropriate methods like those guys in the video that are burning the shit out of the wood they're cutting? How is that considered appropriate and effective? A jigsaw could have cut that piece of wood cleaner, faster, and without nearly setting it on fire. We are competing with Instagram and all of the noise that’s on YouTube and Netflix. Number one is we are in an attention economy and we know that we are competing for the attention of our people. I think the reality is there are so many different stages of what you’ve just described, if you want to boil it down, as a buying funnel or some sort of buying cycle and our learners still go through the exact same process.Ī couple of things came to my mind when you were speaking there. Am I oversimplifying that?Īshley: No, I think that’s exactly right. Again, in L&D the organisation that L&D is employed by is hoping that they can then influence people to do more of the stuff that they want them to do. With inbound marketing, there’s an education element within there, isn’t there? One of the keywords for me within the whole thing, where I think the two really overlap, is in influence, because all a digital marketer can really do is influence an individual to do what the organisation that they work for would like them to do. People are almost coming and knocking on your virtual door and then you’re adding value by guiding them towards finding the solution that best meets their needs. We Need to Prove the Value of Learning Experiences and Build Trust With Our Peopleĭavid: I think that from what I’ve seen and with my limited experience in digital marketing, is that, especially with inbound marketing, you’re capitalising on an interest and a need that has already been brought to your attention, either as an organisation who’s selling stuff or has services that are of value to the person who’s looking into it. Primarily, from my perspective, that is marketing and exactly as you said, why we can steal from marketing and beg, borrow, and steal, as far as I’m concerned. Primarily, when you really boil it down to that, obviously, we’re not talking about developing the learning itself, but more about how we get people to actually undertake it, how we get them to start building different behaviours and changing habits when it comes to learning. The biggest thing for me is, ultimately, we’re trying to get people to do things they don’t want to do or know about things they don’t necessarily know about yet. Can we start off by laying out the similarities between the two?Īshley: I think there’s a huge amount of parity to kick it off really. ĭavid James: Ashley, welcome to the Learning & Development podcast.Īshley Sinclair: Hey, thanks for having me.ĭavid: Ashley, as a seasoned L&D leader myself, I can see how digital marketing and L&D overlap and how L&D benefits hugely when it steals principles and practices from digital marketers, but not everyone in L&D sees this. Listen to episode 58 of the Learning & Development podcast here. This transcript is from the conversation between David and Ashley Sinclair on the crossover between L&D and digital marketing. Featuring L&D leaders from across the globe, each conversation focuses on hot topics in the profession. The Learning & Development podcast is hosted by our Chief Learning Officer David James. Some of the operations of the Java queue raise an exception whereas some of these operations return a particular value when the program is completed. The Queue interface promotes different methods like insert, delete, peek, etc. In the Java queue, there are many methods that are used very commonly. The interfaces that are used to implement the functionalities of the queue are given as follows: The Java interfaces are also used in the implementation of the Java queue. Interfaces used in implementation of Queue The classes that are used to implement the functionalities of the queue are given as follows: Implementation of Queue Classes used in implementation of Queue In Blocking queues, if any work similar to null values is tried, then the NullPointerException is also thrown. Blocking Queues do not support null elements. The Blocking Queues are used to implement the producer-consumer queries. Blocking Queues are also one of the types of queues that are also thread-safe.The deque is also considered thread-safe.The Deque or (double-ended queue) is also a type of queue that carries the inclusion and deletion of elements from both ends. The Queues that are a part of the java.util package are known as the Unbounded queues and bounded queues are the queues that are present in package. There are two types of queues, Unbounded queues and Bounded queues.Other than these two, there is a class that is, Array Blocking Queue that is used to implement the Queue interface. These classes are LinkedList and PriorityQueue. There are two different classes that are used to implement the Queue interface. The Java Queue interface gives all the rules and processes of the Collection interface like inclusion, deletion, etc.It indicates that elements are entered in the queue at the end and eliminated from the front. Java Queue obeys the FIFO (First In, First Out) manner. The significant properties of the Java Queue data structure are given as follows: Java Queue is attractive because of its properties. The Java Queue can be considered as one of the most important data structures in the programming world. In Java programming language, there are two different classes which are used to implement the Queue interface. If a user wants to implement the functionality of the Queue interface in Java, then it is mandatory to have some solid classes that implement the Queue interface. Public interface Queue extends CollectionĪs we have discussed above that the Queue is an interface, therefore we can also say that the queue cannot be instantiated because interfaces cannot be instantiated. The generic representation of the Java Queue interface is shown below: It also extends the Collection interface. The Queue is an interface in the Java that belongs to Java.util package. Components are added inside the queue from the rear end of the queue and the components are extracted from the front end of the queue. The following figure perfectly describes the FIFO (First In, First Out) property of the Java queue.Īs explained in the preceding image, we can see that the queue is a linear data structure with two terminals, i.e., start (front) and end (rear). Queue has two ends that is front and rear. There are two ends in the queue collection, i.e., front & rear. The components in a queue are stored in a FIFO (First In, First Out) behavior. In simple words, we can say that the queue is a type of data structure in the Java programming language that stores elements of the same kind. A queue is another kind of linear data structure that is used to store elements just like any other data structure but in a particular manner. I've also stayed at Baker's Cay and Playa Largo which are much nicer, but twice the price. Without consideration to the hotel being in Key Largo it's a max 2.5- 3 star hotel. By far, the experience at the Hampton Inn in Key Largo was the worst - because of the unfriendly nature of the staff at the reception! … We were in a total of 7 hotels in Florida. We had to listen in on their very loud intercom conversations often enough. Again, I rather noticed the unprofessional staff. Oh well, breakfast was included but not very good. So was the older gentleman at Maintenace. However, it is worth noting that the lady at the pool bar was very friendly and kind. The smell in the room was not pleasant and at the pool it stank of feces. It was so uncomfortable that our 11 year old daughter preferred to sleep on the floor. We had room with king size bed and pull out couch. So it happened to us the whole time at the reception. Then a piece of paper was pressed into my hand without comment with the overview of all expenses. The last incident in this hotel with the reception is a good example of the poor service that is lived at the reception: at checkout I came from the side to the reception and was grumbled at with: "room number"!
